We want to teach you how organic livestock is in Catalonia, in a didactic and fun way. In contact with nature and animals.
How and when did the project arise?
Betara, is a craft company that produces cheeses in Lluçanès (Osona). Since the 90's he is engaged in the same business.
The ECO badge was obtained 10 years ago, because it has always wanted to bet on ecology, the environment and sustainability, despite the low demand that was 10 years ago.
He started making bio cow and goat cheeses, the lack of sheep's milk made us realize, that we had to bet on the construction of a farm of ecological sheep, pioneer in Catalonia, and at the same time convert -in an educational space where livestock and ecological work were shown
We got, made the project a reality in early 2016, and today we have in the municipality of Sant Boi de Lluçanès an eco-school with more than 300 heads of livestock.
In this way Betara has also made possible the dream of a project for educational and social purposes, which can be visited by children and adults.
The ECO Farm School
This initiative aims to raise awareness and promote organic livestock in Catalonia. At the farm you have the doors open for a didactic, fun and in contact with nature, animals, get to know first hand what is a livestock in green. The ECO Granja Escola has a classroom in the same facilities where you can see the corral and the milking room.
We do guided tours for schools and for anyone who wants it. We adapt to all levels of education: from childhood to college - so that visitors can personally know what an organic milk ranch is. With this visit, you can get an idea of the work of a shepherd and a formatter, both on site and with audiovisual material.
In this regard, Betara has signed an agreement with the University of Vic-Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC) for the education students to develop the didactic activities and the different workshops. It is also in contact with different museums in the Lluçanès such as the Espai Rocaguinarda d'Olost.
If you are interested in visiting the school, please contact us to arrange a meeting on our Eco Farm.
